Qualifications

• Advanced degree in microbiology or related life sciences.
• 9+ years in biodefense or biosecurity.
• Dual-use expertise to distinguish legitimate research from misuse.
• Regulatory fluency with BWC, Select Agent rules, export controls.
• Technical leadership leading scientists/analysts.
• Strong communication to convey microbiological risk to engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Serve as final escalation authority for high-consequence cases.
• Set standards for dual-use and CBRN adjudication.
• Deliver ground-truth labels for AI safety classifiers.
• Refine risk playbooks and labeling taxonomies.
• Direct and mentor pod members.
• Brief client biosecurity leads with risk memos.
