Job summary

Manus in Augusta, GA is seeking a Senior Process Controls Engineer to lead automation across the BioFacility. You will guide PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA projects from design through commissioning, with a focus on continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers, partnering with Manufacturing, Quality, and EHS to deliver safe, compliant automation solutions, and driving OEE improvements in a biotech manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or related discipline).
• 5–7 years of progressive experience in process controls or automation engineering in a manufacturing environment; biotech, pharmaceutical, or specialty chemical experience strongly preferred.
• 5–7 years of progressive experience in Project Management responsibilities.
• Demonstrated hands‑on expertise with PLC and/or DCS platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell) including programming, configuration, and commissioning.
• Proven experience leading capital projects, including scope development, cost estimation, and site commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of process instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, level, analytical) and control loop tuning.
• GMP regulatory compliance knowledge; excellent verbal and written communication.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; RCA investigations and CAPA implementation.
• Physical ability to perform equipment inspection in a manufacturing environment; PPE and safety compliance.
• Flexibility for shutdowns and extraordinary operational conditions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as site SME for process control systems (PLC, DCS, HMI, SCADA) and provide guidance to engineering and operations teams.
• Lead design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of complex control systems for new and modified processes with integration to upstream/downstream operations.
• Evaluate and select control hardware/software platforms; develop site-wide standards for control architecture, programming conventions, and documentation.
• Lead advanced troubleshooting of process control issues; perform RCA and drive CAPA implementations.
• Own and lead area capital projects from scope development and cost justification through FAT and site commissioning.
• Develop project plans, manage timelines, coordinate contractor and vendor activities, and communicate status to leadership.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables (P&IDs, control narratives, FMEA, functional specs, as-builds).
• Mentor Process Controls Engineer I/II staff on project execution and best practices.
• Provide senior-level technical support to Production for control configuration and troubleshooting across systems.
• Identify and implement automation improvements with Production and Process Development; drive OEE enhancements.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve process reliability.
