Job summary

Vertex is seeking a strategic, hands-on Biomarkers Senior Research Lab Scientist to develop and optimize biomarker assays for clinical trials. You will design experiments to identify and characterize novel biomarkers in human biofluids and tissues, working in a fast-paced, agile environment with strong assay development and validation expertise.

You will partner with Research, Quality, and Biomarker Leads to align ongoing biomarker research activities, and you will collaborate across

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent with 2-5 years post-doctoral experience or Master’s with 5+ years of experience or Bachelor’s with 8+ years of experience.
• Hands-on ligand binding assay development for translational or clinical applications.
• Experience in GLP/GCP environments and assay validation.
• Strong molecular and cell biology laboratory expertise.
• Effective communication and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute method development for biomarker assays in clinical trials.
• Evaluate assay strategies in human biofluids and tissues.
• Troubleshoot challenges across technologies and disease areas.
• Support reagent generation and validation across assay types.
• Collaborate to evaluate CROs and transfer assays to external vendors.
• Generate and interpret experimental data; present results to stakeholders.
• Work with cross-functional teams to advance biomarker goals.
