Job summary

Albany Medical College is seeking a Bioinformatics Core Lab Manager to lead the design, execution, and optimization of computational workflows for bulk and single-cell genomics. You will work with research teams to translate questions into analyses, generate publication-ready results, and help expand the core facility services.

The role includes supervising staff, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring quality control, data security, and regulatory compliance in core operations.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical engineering or a related scientific field is required.
• Master’s degree or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, biostatistics, molecular biology, or a related discipline preferred.
• Requires three or more years of experience in a laboratory or core facility operations; managerial experience preferred.
• Experience supporting shared instrumentation or multi-user core facilities is preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact with researchers and staff.

Responsibilities

• Design, support, and troubleshoot core-based computational workflows.
• Prepare methods descriptions related to software, data platforms, analyses for manuscripts and grants.
• Review software documentation, methods manuals, vendor documentation, and literature for core development.
• Confer regularly with Core Director and users to review service needs and future directions.
• Develop reproducible R, Python, and Linux workflows for core pipelines.
• Supervise core facility staff and trainees; participate in hiring and training.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and data security in core operations.
