Job summary

Redwood Materials seeks a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Electrical Engineer to lead utility-scale BESS design for EPC projects. You will size layouts, interface with utilities, and ensure compliance with NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540 and NFPA 855, while coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams.

The role demands 5+ years in solar/energy storage, with 3+ years focused on BESS design, and a Nevada PE license or eligibility with rapid licensure plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity; must obtain Nevada PE and SC reciprocity within 2 months.
• Minimum 5 years in solar, energy storage, or microgrid sectors with at least 3 years in BESS design/deployment.
• Proven interconnection and regulatory compliance expertise for BESS systems.
• SME in NEC 705, NEC 706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NFPA 855; strong modeling/analysis experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering efforts for utility-scale BESS projects from concept to construction.
• Interface with utilities/ISO/RTOs for interconnection studies, permitting, and compliance.
• Serve as SME for BESS technical challenges; design AC/DC systems and specify long-lead equipment.
• Develop schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring, grounding, protection strategies.
• Coordinate with civil/structural/SCADA/geo tech teams to produce IFC packages and specs.
• Lead R&D on MV DC distribution for BESS integration; provide project cost estimates and QA/QC.
