Job summary

1X is building humanoid robots that move, learn, and operate in the real world. The Battery team designs energy storage systems powering NEO, ensuring high energy density, safety, and reliability in a compact form factor.

You will own battery architecture from components through production, work hands-on with cells, modules, and packs, and collaborate across Electrical, Mechanical, and Software teams to deliver safe, scalable energy solutions for daily robot operation.

Qualifications

• Minimum: bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
• 5+ years engineering experience in battery systems or energy storage.
• Experience with fixtures/test equipment and battery packs/modules.
• Strong understanding of lithium-ion chemistry, cell behavior, and safety.
• Experience with battery pack architecture, interconnects, sensing, protection, and thermal management.
• Experience with characterization testing and data-driven design decisions.
• Experience collaborating with electrical, mechanical, embedded software, manufacturing, reliability, and supply chain teams.
• Experience supporting hardware from prototype through production.
• Experience working in fast-paced hardware environments with rapid prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Build battery systems meeting energy, power, weight, volume, thermal, safety, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
• Own architecture from design through prototyping, validation, and production.
• Develop compact, lightweight, safe, and reliable battery solutions for humanoid robots.
• Work hands-on with cells, modules, packs, test systems, and complete robots.
• Improve energy density, power, thermal performance, cycle life, and manufacturability.
• Develop validation methods for cells, modules, packs, charging, and safety.
• Identify failure modes via testing and data analysis to drive design improvements.
• Support hardware through prototype builds, NPI, supplier qualification, and ramp to production.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Embedded Software, Mechanical, Controls, Reliability, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams.
