Job summary

1X is building NEO, a humanoid home robot designed to move, learn, and operate safely in real-world environments. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and deliver the head assembly and related mechanical systems, owning components through the full product lifecycle from concept to production.

You will prototype, test, validate, and collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Industrial Design, and Systems teams to optimize performance, manufacturability, and user experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years mechanical product development with hardware released to high-volume production.
• Experience in automotive, consumer electronics, robotics or similar electromechanical systems.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or Onshape.
• Familiarity with ANSYS or equivalent FEA tools.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection molding, machining, casting, stamping, and additive manufacturing.
• Experience with GD&T, DFM, DFA, prototyping, testing, and validation.
• Ability to work full-time onsite in San Carlos, CA.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver mechanical systems powering NEO’s head assembly.
• Own components and assemblies through concept, prototyping, validation, manufacturing and ramp.
• Impact robot perception, reliability, thermal performance, safety and user experience.
• Develop CAD models, drawings, GD&T, and assembly instructions.
• Support prototypes, testing, reliability validation, and failure analysis.
• Collaborate across Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Industrial Design and Systems teams.
