Job summary

ALSO, an electric mobility company in Silicon Valley, seeks a Battery Controls Engineer to design BMS control algorithms, estimate SOC/SOH, and validate models in MATLAB/Simulink. The role collaborates with Systems, EE, and Firmware teams to deploy production-ready embedded code, ensure safety, and support MIL/SIL/HIL testing.

Ideal candidates hold a degree in engineering, understand lithium-ion chemistries and high-voltage systems, and have experience with Kalman filters, ISO 26262, and Vector

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Solid understanding of battery systems, including SOC/SOH estimation and cell balancing.
• Experience with Lithium Ion chemistries, high-voltage systems, and BMS architecture.
• Knowledge of control theory and state estimation methods such as Kalman filtering.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262 functional safety standards.
• Strong MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow experience and model-based development.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems and embedded code generation.
• Experience with Vector tools for automotive diagnostics.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control algorithms for battery management systems (BMS), including thermal management, charging, and power distribution.
• Develop and validate physics or data based battery state estimation algorithms (SOC, SOH, SOF).
• Design and implement control and protection strategies (OV/UV, OC, cell balancing, thermal limits).
• Build and validate system models in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow for control development and verification.
• Generate production-quality embedded code for deployment on microcontrollers.
• Support model-based development workflows, including MIL, SIL, and HIL testing and validation.
• Integrate BMS control algorithms into system architecture, ensuring safety and certification compliance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Systems, EE, Battery Cell Engineering, Firmware) to deliver robust solutions.
• Analyze field data to refine predictive models for battery degradation and performance over time.
