Job summary

SR Staffing is seeking a Lead BMS Software Engineer to join a global leader in advanced battery technology in Houston, TX. The role focuses on BMS architecture, embedded software, validation, and production release for next-generation high-voltage battery systems.

The candidate will drive technical ownership, mentor engineers, collaborate with international teams, and guide development from requirements through release across BMS software and controls using MATLAB/Simulink.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years in high-voltage battery pack development.
• 3+ years of engineering leadership or management experience.
• Strong experience with BMS development and verification for high-voltage battery packs.
• Embedded control software development for safety-critical applications.
• Model-based control development with MATLAB/Simulink.
• Experience with automotive standards and development processes (IATF 16949, APQP, V-model).

• Technical leadership role supporting next-generation lithium-ion battery and BMS technology

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline
• 5+ years of experience in large, high-voltage battery pack development from concept through market introduction
• 3+ years of engineering leadership or management experience with demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship
• Strong experience with Battery Management System (BMS) development and verification for high-voltage battery packs
• Strong understanding of embedded control software development and documentation for safety-critical applications
• Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink for model-based control development and electrical/control system simulation
• Experience developing or governing advanced battery algorithms including SOC, SOE, SOH, and real-time battery state estimation
• Strong knowledge of automotive communication protocols including CAN, SAE J1939, and CAN 2.0B
• Knowledge and experience with ISO 26262 functional safety and ISO 21434 cybersecurity
• Experience with requirements management and automotive development processes including IATF 16949, APQP, and/or V-model development
• Experience overseeing BMS integration with battery packs, vehicle control units, dataloggers, and external interfaces
• Ability to lead technical activities across requirements, architecture, implementation, HIL testing, field testing, validation, and release management
• Experience managing engineering development plans, milestones, budgets, schedules, and technical roadmaps
• Experience with data-driven or machine learning approaches for battery health, field failure, degradation, or performance prediction is valuable
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary and international engineering teams
