Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Senior BAS Programmer / Building Automation Engineer to support Nashville and Middle Tennessee projects. The role is hands-on, owning BAS projects from programming and startup through commissioning and turnover, with leadership and mentoring opportunities as the operation grows.

Ideal candidates have strong HVAC, DDC, and BACnet/IP experience, with the ability to read MEP drawings and coordinate with cross-functional teams on site in Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities

• Program, configure, and commission BAS/DDC control systems.
• Develop control logic based on sequences of operation and drawings.
• Program and configure controllers, supervisory devices, field equipment, and BAS networks.
• Create graphics, trends, alarms, schedules, and user interfaces.
• Perform system startup, point-to-point checkout, and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot BAS programming, controllers, sensors, and networking.
• Configure IP communications and BAS networks; integrate third-party equipment.
• Assist with TAB and system performance verification.
• Review drawings and provide redlines for as-built docs.
• Coordinate with PMs, technicians, electricians, engineers, and customers.
• Provide demos and training for building owners and facility personnel.
• Mentor technicians and junior programmers.

Senior BAS Programmer / Building Automation Engineer

Location: Nashville, TN

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview: An established and growing building automation contractor is seeking an experienced Senior BAS Programmer / Building Automation Engineer to support projects throughout the Nashville and Middle Tennessee market.

This is a hands-on technical position for someone who can take ownership of BAS projects from programming and startup through commissioning and customer turnover. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of HVAC systems, DDC controls, sequences of operation, and BAS networking and is comfortable troubleshooting both controls and mechanical issues in the field.

As the Nashville operation continues to grow, this position also offers the opportunity to take on additional technical leadership, project coordination, customer support, and mentoring responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Program, configure, and commission BAS/DDC control systems
• Develop control logic based on sequences of operation, mechanical plans, specifications, and control drawings
• Program and configure controllers, supervisory devices, field equipment, and BAS networks
• Create and integrate graphics, trends, alarms, schedules, and user interfaces
• Perform system startup, point-to-point checkout, functional testing, and commissioning
• Troubleshoot BAS programming, controllers, sensors, communications, networking, and HVAC equipment
• Configure and troubleshoot IP communications and BAS networks
• Integrate third-party equipment using common building automation protocols
• Assist with Test & Balance (TAB) and system performance verification
• Review project drawings and provide accurate redlines for final as-built documentation
• Coordinate with project managers, technicians, mechanical contractors, electricians, engineers, and customers
• Provide system demonstrations and training for building owners and facility personnel
• Assist technicians and junior programmers with troubleshooting and technical questions
• Help identify opportunities to improve project execution, programming standards, and customer support

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on experience programming and commissioning Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS/DDC)
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, electrical controls, and sequences of operation
• Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, control diagrams, specifications, and mechanical plans
• Working knowledge of BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus and IP networking
• Experience with BAS graphics, trends, alarms, scheduling, and system integration
• Strong troubleshooting skills across both controls and HVAC/mechanical systems
• Experience with system startup, commissioning, and project turnover
• Ability to independently manage technical responsibilities across multiple projects
• Strong communication, organization, and customer-facing skills
• Experience mentoring technicians or supporting project teams is a plus

Experience with platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Distech Controls, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Automated Logic, Delta Controls, Alerton, or similar BAS systems is highly valued.
