Job summary

Brex is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in Banking to shape the technical direction of the Brex Banking product area, working across customer-facing surfaces and core financial infrastructure to drive architecture, reliability, and execution across the full stack.

Based in Seattle, this role is hybrid, combining in-office collaboration with flexibility. The team leverages cross-functional partners to deliver ambitious product outcomes while maintaining operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with senior leadership in multi-team initiatives.
• Track record leading architecture and delivery for large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to simplify complex problems into actionable plans.
• Experience improving reliability and engineering quality in production systems.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration across product, design, operations, risk, and compliance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to influence senior stakeholders.
• Hands-on technical depth and ability to dive into implementation when needed.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and scaling technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical strategy for Banking initiatives across teams.
• Design and evolve reliable, scalable money movement and payment infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product, design, operations, compliance, risk, and accounting.
• Improve observability, incident prevention, and engineering standards; drive architecture reviews.
• Provide technical leadership across teams and mentor leaders.
• Contribute directly when needed during high-stakes initiatives.
