Job summary

Brex is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in Banking to shape the technical direction of strategic product areas within the company. You will influence architecture across customer-facing product surfaces and core financial infrastructure, driving reliability and execution across the full stack.

The role requires leading through influence, simplifying complex systems, and partnering with product, design, and operations to deliver ambitious outcomes while upholding operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Proven track record leading architecture for large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
• Hands-on depth with ability to dive into implementation when needed.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and scale of leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical strategy for Banking initiatives across multiple teams.
• Drive design and evolution of reliable, scalable money-movement and financial infrastructure systems.
• Partner with product, design, operations, compliance, risk, and accounting to translate requirements into durable technical solutions.
• Identify and resolve reliability and operability issues, improving observability and engineering standards.
• Provide technical leadership across teams, guiding architecture reviews and tradeoffs in ambiguity.
• Mentor senior engineers and emerging leaders within the Banking org.
• Contribute directly during design, debugging, rollout strategy, or implementation for high-stakes initiatives.
