CoStar Group, Inc. is seeking a highly detail-oriented Senior Background Check Specialist to join our HR Services team. You will conduct comprehensive background checks on potential hires to ensure a secure and reputable workforce, focusing on employment history, criminal records, education, and other sources.

The successful candidate will work with legal and compliance teams, stay updated on regulations, and deliver accurate findings with discretion in a fast-paced, confidential environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, criminal justice or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in corporate background checks.
• Experience with background screening tools, databases and platforms used in the industry.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing background checks.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• High ethical standards and a commitment to conducting background checks with honesty and integrity.
• Proficiency in using background screening tools and databases.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough background checks on job applicants, focusing on employment history, criminal records, education, social media profiles and drug tests.
• Utilize various databases and resources to gather accurate and up-to-date information.
• Establish rapport with colleagues and external contacts, particularly when verifying information with past employers or educational institutions.
• Efficiently manage time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Analyze findings and identify additional records or information needs as necessary.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for conveying findings clearly in reports.
• Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure adherence to relevant regulations and company policies.
• Willingness to stay informed about changes in legislation, industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to background check screening.
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion.
