SBG Associates Ltd in New York is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to help build and scale a high-traffic booking platform and external APIs.

You will own critical services, design scalable REST APIs, and partner with staff engineers on architecture while tackling transactional systems, distributed processing and reliability.

This role offers hands-on ownership, collaboration with senior leadership, and opportunities to work with AWS, PostgreSQL, and third-party integrations.

We are searching for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join a really awesome team in NY to help develop and scale its booking platform and external APIs.

The company operates a global marketplace with over almost 3000 hotel partners across 30 countries, serving more than7 million customers - and there is no sign of slowing down.

They're now expanding their platform to support new booking experiences, third-party integrations and AI-powered booking capabilities.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll take ownership of a critical API platform, tackling complex challenges involving transactional systems, inventory management, distributed systems and reliability.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and REST APIs.
• Develop APIs covering pricing, availability, reservations, booking changes and cancellations.
• Solve complex problems involving concurrency, idempotency, retries and distributed system failures.
• Improve and scale existing Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL applications.
• Build integrations with third-party booking platforms, hotel management systems and external partners.
• Develop reliable systems to prevent duplicate bookings and inventory inconsistencies.
• Work closely with Staff Engineers on architecture and technical decisions.
• Improve system performance, testing, monitoring and reliability.

What We're Looking For

• 6+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong experience developing backend applications and REST APIs.
• Experience with backend technologies.
• Strong knowledge of SQL databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing transactional systems or complex integration platforms.
• Good understanding of distributed systems, concurrency and asynchronous processing.
• Experience working with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
• Comfortable taking ownership of technical projects while remaining hands-on.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with marketplaces, booking systems, payments or e-commerce.
• Knowledge of OpenSearch, MongoDB, webhooks or OpenAPI.
• Experience building third-party integrations.

Ruby on Rails experience is beneficial but not essential. Strong backend engineers from other technology backgrounds are welcome.
