Atrium Staffing LLC is recruiting for Senior Backend Software Engineers in New York City. The role focuses on owning backend services, API-driven development, and scalable platform architecture for a growing hospitality marketplace.

You will build APIs for partners and AI agents, integrate with third-party systems, and collaborate with engineers to deliver reliable, high-performance systems while growing toward Staff-level influence.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems for a growing hospitality marketplace.

Salary/Hourly Rate:

$190k - $210k plus equity, with some flexibility for exceptional candidates.

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking two Senior Backend Software Engineers to help develop and scale the company's core booking platform and external API infrastructure. These engineers will build APIs that enable distribution partners and authorized AI agents to price, hold, book, modify, and cancel live hotel inventory. The Senior Backend Software Engineer will take ownership of backend services, third-party integrations, and technical decisions while developing reliable, scalable systems that support new hospitality experiences and product categories. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for engineers who enjoy writing production code, solving complex technical challenges, and delivering meaningful improvements. Working closely with a Staff Engineer, the Senior Backend Software Engineer will contribute to foundational architecture while independently driving day-to-day engineering initiatives. The ideal candidate brings strong backend development experience, sound technical judgment, and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly. There is also an opportunity to grow toward Staff-level responsibilities through demonstrated technical impact. Previous experience with Ruby on Rails, OpenSearch, or the hospitality industry is not required. The Hiring team prioritizes strong engineering fundamentals, technical judgment, adaptability, collaboration, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Responsibilities of the Senior Backend Software Engineers:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems supporting a growing hospitality marketplace.
• Build and maintain external-facing APIs that allow distribution partners and authorized AI agents to interact with live hotel inventory.
• Develop integrations supporting pricing, reservations, bookings, modifications, and cancellations.
• Design reliable transactional systems where accuracy, consistency, and data integrity are essential.
• Take ownership of API design, backend architecture, and day-to-day technical decisions.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on foundational architecture and long-term platform scalability.
• Design relational data models supporting existing booking functionality and new product categories, including events, food, and beverage.
• Establish reusable engineering patterns that can support future partner integrations.
• Partner with engineering, product, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Write, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality production code.

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Backend Software Engineers:

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily focused on backend or platform development.
• Experience working within a strong engineering organization with established technical standards and engineering best practices.
• Proven ability to independently design, build, and deploy complex backend systems into production.
• Strong experience developing external-facing APIs and integrating with third-party platforms.
• Experience building transactional systems involving bookings, payments, orders, reservations, inventory, or comparable workflows.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, domain modeling, data consistency, and backend architecture.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and the ability to solve complex technical problems.
• Demonstrated technical ownership and the ability to make sound architectural and engineering decisions.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams.
• High learning velocity, intellectual curiosity, and adaptability when working with unfamiliar technologies.
• Desire to remain hands-on with coding rather than transition into a management-only position.
• Ability to work onsite in New York City four days per week.

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Backend Software Engineers:

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Familiarity with Redis, Kafka, Datadog, and OpenSearch.
• Experience developing high-volume transactional platforms, marketplaces, payment systems, or booking applications.
• Experience building complex third-party integrations and scalable API infrastructure.
• Background at an established technology company or high-performing product engineering organization.
• Experience working in a rapidly growing startup environment.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, including LLM coding agents.
• Experience owning technical projects from initial design through production deployment.

Education Requirements:
