Job summary

Arc is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering boat infotainment and a mobile app. You will build robust data pipelines for telemetry, and create internal tools to improve manufacturing processes, while managing cloud resources and infrastructure.

The role focuses on aligning technical vision with business goals, optimizing performance and cost, and collaborating across teams to accelerate Arc’s trajectory in electric marine technology.

This is a full-time role reporting to the Director, Software Engineering in a remote, hybrid or onsite capacity and will work closely with our Software Engineering team where everyone\1s work matters.

What You\'ll Do

• Designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems powering our boat infotainment systems and mobile app
• Building and optimizing data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and visualizing boat telemetry data
• Developing internal tools to improve our manufacturing processes
• Managing cloud resources and infrastructure
• Identifying opportunities to use software to accelerate the company\'s trajectory

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience with expertise in at least one backend programming language (e.g., TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, Rust)
• Experience overseeing technical projects, including communicating with stakeholders, prioritizing high ROI features, driving towards a technical vision, and delegating workscope
• Proficiency with at least one cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps best practices
• Deep understanding of API design and microservices architecture
• Demonstrated ability to optimize backend systems for performance, cost, and scale
• Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of software engineering and passion for developing high quality, maintainable software

Bonus qualifications

• Experience with Amazon Web Services
• Familiarity with data processing and analytics tools (e.g., BigQuery, Apache Spark, Kafka)
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• Experience with real-time data processing and IoT systems
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and tools such as manufacturing execution systems (MESs)
• Experience with machine learning and predictive analytics
• Comfortable pushing at a fast but sustainable pace
• Enthusiasm for boating and the water

The base salary for this role is $190,000 annually
