Job description

The marine industry supports recreation, global commerce, and national defense. And yet it runs on technology that hasn't meaningfully changed in fifty years. Until now.
Arc is on a mission to electrify the marine industry. We're rethinking powertrains, software, and vessel designs from first principles. And we're already executing. We started with consumers to develop and harden our core technology. We’re now scaling production of our flagship model with new models and sectors on the horizon. Now we’re extending our platform to commercial applications, starting with tugs, ferries, and defense, with years worth of signed contracts and a pipeline that spans every vessel type on the water.

The technology is proven, the momentum is building, and the opportunity is enormous. The marine industry is going electric and Arc is building the platform that powers it.

Who we’re looking for

As Arc's Build Engineer, you will own the transition of our commercial vessels from development to high-rate production. That means developing manufacturing processes and production tooling, driving design decisions that make our vessels easier to build, and optimizing production flow from first article through full rate.

We're looking for someone fired up by the mission and ready to build. You'll thrive here if you move fast, take ownership, and care about the details.

This is a full-time, on-site role at our Los Angeles headquarters.

What You'll Do
  • Develop production procedures and processes, and manage the transition of parts and assemblies from development to production
  • Architect the manufacturing system, factory layout, and processes to deliver Arc's next-generation commercial vessels
  • Review CAD models and provide manufacturing feedback to ensure designs are optimized for high-rate production and on-time delivery
  • Design production tooling using hand calculations and CAD
  • Create and manage manufacturing BOMs, work instructions, and specifications
  • Integrate subsystems into full vehicle assemblies, and develop and execute test procedures
  • Disposition rework and repairs during the manufacturing process
  • Question assembly and test requirements, delete parts and processes, simplify production flow, and cut in targeted automation
  • Implement linear production flow, visual indicators of bottlenecks and stock-outs, and product-specific build/test cells for low-intervention production
  • Interface with contractors and suppliers, and partner with other teams to generate ideas, designs, and improvements for current and next-generation vessels
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, operations engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or a related engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of hands‑on experience driving design, development, and manufacturing (internships, personal projects, and academic project team experience are applicable)
  • Willingness to get hands‑on building next-generation boats
  • Active physical activity including lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs and trailering and boarding onto water vessels as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience in build/test development and on-time delivery of new hardware
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, including but not limited to fabrication, welding, machining, or assembly
  • Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of Design for Manufacturability
  • Solid understanding and application of GD&T
  • Analytical/scientific programming experience (Python, Matlab, Excel)
  • Exposure to multiple engineering disciplines and prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
  • Leadership or mentorship experience and ability to communicate and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to articulate and defend engineering decisionsComfortable with a fast but sustainable pace
  • Enthusiasm for boating and the water

At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You’re always welcome to reach out even if you don’t meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.
