Job summary

Bitovi is seeking a Backend / Platform Developer Consultant for a fully remote role focused on building durable Java services, Temporal workflows, and Kafka pipelines for enterprise clients. You will engage in Kubernetes-native platform engineering on AWS and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust systems.

The position emphasizes client collaboration, ownership of infrastructure, and opportunities to travel for engagements.

Qualifications

• Temporal workflow engine experience; others like Airflow or Prefect also relevant.
• Designing and operating Kafka-based event streaming systems.
• GraphQL API design with performance considerations.
• Deep AWS expertise: EKS, IAM, networking, messaging, and data services.
• Strong Kubernetes production experience.
• Systems engineering mindset for scaling distributed systems.
• CI/CD pipelines and GitOps delivery familiarity.
• Observability: logging, metrics, tracing.
• Experience with microservice/serverless architectures.
• Database schema design and development.

Responsibilities

• Build durable systems by designing and implementing Java services, Temporal workflows, and Kafka-based event pipelines for enterprise clients.
• Lead modernization efforts, moving workflows, services, and data between platforms, clusters, and clouds with safety and observability.
• Own the platform by building and operating Kubernetes-native infrastructure and CI/CD on AWS for safe, fast delivery.
• Consult with clients to build outcome-driven applications and tackle challenges with clients across projects.
• Travel for client engagements, approximately 3–5 days per quarter.
• Teach through conferences, training, and community meetups to grow our practice.
