Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Software Engineer focused on backend platform and API ownership. You will design, build, and operate scalable backend services powering critical product and business capabilities, with emphasis on secure, reliable APIs and observability.

You will mentor peers, advance CI/CD efforts, and collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions. This role is hybrid and located in the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend API development and production experience.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, or similar languages.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and service-to-service integrations.
• Experience with cloud platforms and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with databases and data modeling.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support backend services and APIs.
• Own service architecture and technical design decisions for backend platforms.
• Build secure, reusable APIs and integrations.
• Improve scalability, performance, resilience, and observability.
• Lead logging, monitoring, and observability practices.
• Mentor engineers and raise backend engineering standards.
• Support CI/CD, release readiness, and automation.
