Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to lead high-performance backend services for GM Commercial Services. You will guide architecture, APIs, and product strategy, partnering with stakeholders across engineering, design, and operations to deliver scalable, reliable solutions.

You will mentor engineers, drive best practices, and launch products that provide value to internal and external customers, while staying current with industry trends and technologies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in successfully designing and building large engineering projects, including successful productionization of highly scalable, reliable and performant systems.
• Extensive experience in architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• Extensive experience in Java / Kotlin or Python.
• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with at least one of the public cloud providers Azure, AWS, GCP.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in an agile development environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, OO, data structures, and algorithms.
• A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in designing and building the flagship GM Commercial Services Software.
• Develop a deep understanding of GM Commercial Services' business strategy and goals.
• Identify and solve high-impact, highly complex problems across the organization.
• Drive alignment on tackling these issues and lead delivery of high-leverage solutions.
• Raise the bar to improve best practices, code quality, tests and monitoring.
• Build and launch new products delivering value to internal and external customers.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, product, design, infra and operations.
• Mentor junior and experienced engineers to support career growth.
