Job summary

Crunchyroll is seeking a Software Engineer III for Playback Services to design and own backend services powering secure video playback. You will work on latency, security, and publishing workflows, with a focus on content protection.

You will own end-to-end features, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and participate in on-call rotations. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of backend experience, strong TypeScript/Go skills, and hands-on cloud experience (AWS or GCP).

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Proficient in TypeScript or Go for backend services.
• Experience with AWS or GCP and distributed systems in production.
• Understanding of video streaming fundamentals, APIs, and backend service architecture.
• Ability to own well-scoped projects from design to deployment.
• Familiarity with content protection and security concerns in playback.
• Strong debugging and incident response skills for production systems.
• Clear communication and collaboration across teams.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and improve backend services and APIs for secure, reliable video playback.
• Own projects that improve content protection and security, latency, and publishing workflows.
• Deliver projects from design to deployment with balance of speed, quality, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product, QA, and other teams to ship high-quality features.
• Contribute to code reviews, tests, and technical documentation to improve quality.
• Identify risks early and work with stakeholders to resolve them.
• Help increase delivery velocity with practical, durable improvements.
• Participate in on-call and incident response to expand coverage.
