Job summary

General Motors in Sunnyvale, CA, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to build scalable APIs and data pipelines powering GM's autonomous programs. You'll own production services, collaborate across AI research, data engineering, vehicle engineering, and product teams, and drive observability and reliability.

The role requires 7+ years of software engineering, strong Python skills, and experience with event-driven architectures, data ingestion, and production operations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of production systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Python or another modern backend programming language.
• Strong experience designing scalable backend services, APIs, and relational data models.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous workflows, data ingestion, testing, debugging, and production operations.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions and lead work across organizational boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop APIs, domain services, event-driven workflows, and vehicle-recording metadata pipelines.
• Build services and user experiences for defining collection events and triggers, selecting data, generating and validating configurations, deploying campaigns, and monitoring results.
• Design version-aware workflows that reconcile signals, schemas, hardware capabilities, and software compatibility across vehicle platforms.
• Improve visibility into campaign health, fleet coverage, recording volume, ingestion latency, and data quality.
• Lead technical design and deliver cross-team initiatives involving vehicle recording, fleet management, data platforms, autonomy, privacy, product, and program teams.
• Raise the engineering bar through architecture reviews, automated testing, code reviews, technical mentorship, and production support.
