Job summary

Roblox is hiring for a backend-focused role based in San Mateo, CA, building scalable safety and risk-management systems for a global audience. You will own critical components from data collection to intervention delivery, partnering with ML teams to enhance risk assessment while maintaining fairness and explainability.

The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, reliability, and ethical engineering in a high-scale, user-facing platform with millions of daily active users, including minors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems at scale.
• Strong experience designing distributed systems and APIs (RPC/gRPC).
• Experience with rules engines, decision systems, or stateful services.
• Experience with streaming or batch data pipelines and feature stores.
• Solid production operations fundamentals: monitoring, alerting, on-call, capacity planning.

Responsibilities

• Build the User Behavior Foundation: low-latency per-user data layer for real-time safety decisions.
• Own the Consequence Engine to unify rules with ML risk signals.
• Own the Feature Restriction Platform to deliver safety interventions.
• Unify Abuse Reporting with scalable backend and ML model routing.
• Design for trust and auditability with explainability and fairness.
• Ship end-to-end delivery from design to production.
