Job summary

Whatnot is hiring a Backend Engineer to design and build the core systems for the Seller Growth Platform, focusing on the new seller funnel, identity verification, fraud detection, and scalable infrastructure.

You will work across backend and frontend, leverage Python/Elixir/JavaScript, and contribute to models and signals that guide onboarding, incentives, and discovery paths. This role supports flexible remote or hub-based work with strong ownership expectations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Experience building scalable systems using Python, Elixir, JavaScript.

Responsibilities

• Design and build systems at the heart of the new seller funnel.
• Protect the funnel from fraud and abuse with IDV and fraud detection.
• Balance growth with trust and safety for thousands of weekly sellers.
• Build platform intelligence via seller identification and signals.
• Create scalable infrastructure with reusable trust and reputation systems.
• Drive long-term seller success by bucketing by value and risk.
