Job summary

Whatnot is seeking a Backend Engineer for its Seller Growth Platform in New York. You will design and build systems at the heart of the new seller funnel, protecting against fraud and enabling scalable onboarding for thousands of sellers weekly.

You’ll work across the stack with Python, Elixir, and JavaScript, owning features end-to-end and partnering with Data Science and Trust teams to create reusable infrastructure. Strong ownership and shipping speed are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience building scalable systems in Python, Elixir, and JavaScript.
• Ability to work across backend and frontend stacks with end-to-end ownership.
• Proven track record of shipping features quickly.
• Strong product instincts and user-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Protecting the funnel from fraud and abuse with IDV and risk reviews.
• Scale systems to handle thousands of new sellers weekly without friction.
• Build platform intelligence to route onboarding and discovery paths.
• Create reusable trust and reputation systems with data science teams.
• Drive long-term seller success by bucketing by value and risk.
