Job summary

Ground News is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our backend team and build the services that power millions of readers. You’ll own features end-to-end, design robust systems, and ship fast with a strong emphasis on reliability, observability, and performance.

In a lean, collaborative environment with remote-friendly policies, you’ll collaborate across disciplines, mentor teammates, and continuously improve the platform as Ground News helps people see every side of the story.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of TypeScript experience and Async/Await proficiency.
• At least 3 years of NodeJs experience.
• At least 3 years working with relational databases (MySQL or Postgres).
• Willingness to learn and grow as a developer.
• Ability to think critically and make informed technical decisions.
• Experience writing scalable code and identifying bad patterns.
• Some experience with ElasticSearch, Redis or similar caching systems.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of customer-facing features with rapid delivery expectations.
• Engage in end-to-end projects from conception to deployment.
• Collaborate across departments and translate needs into implementable solutions.
• Contribute to lean, agile development while maintaining quality and reliability.
