Coinbase, Inc. is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to design and build reliable backend services and integrations across source control, CI/CD, policy systems, and developer workflows.

You will lead the adoption of a consistent merge path and collaborate with Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, and product engineering teams to ensure safe, observable decisions. The role requires building distributed systems, driving automation, and evaluating AI-assisted development workflows across

Qualifications

• 7+ years experience in backend or platform engineering
• Strong backend and distributed-systems experience in Go or a comparable language
• Experience designing APIs, durable state, failure recovery, observability, and safe rollout mechanisms
• Experience with CI/CD, source-control integrations, developer infrastructure, or another high-consequence control plane
• Strong security and authorization judgment; understand risky shortcuts
• Evidence of leading a cross-team technical project from design through migration and ownership
• Hands-on AI fluency; know how to use AI-assisted engineering workflows

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of Coinbase's Unified Merge Gate and its deployment
• Integrate automated review findings, risk assessments, CI results, identity evidence, and human judgment into one merge decision
• Build backend services and integrations across GitHub, CI, and policy systems
• Migrate repositories from legacy controls to the Unified Merge Gate with safe rollouts
• Partner with Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, Codeflow, ZTSC, and repository owners to turn control requirements into workflows
• Measure impact on review volume, time-to-merge, coverage, quality, and defects
