Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for a remote role in the United States. You will guide architecture for scalable backend services that power reporting, data access, and data export, while collaborating with product, QA, and vendor teams.

Bring 7+ years of backend leadership, strong Java/Spring, and cloud experience (GCP). You’ll own API design, security tradeoffs, and infrastructure health in a fast-moving, global environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems with leadership.
• Hands-on Java and Spring; scalable distributed applications.
• Ownership of architecture across multiple services, API design, and security.
• Strong relational DB design, migrations, and performance.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP) and containerization/CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap for backend services supporting reporting, data access, and export.
• Document architectural decisions and balance delivery with long-term health.
• Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, API design, security, observability.
• Review designs, resolve complex challenges, and contribute hands-on code.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with product, QA, and partner teams.
