Job summary

Wonder in Boston is seeking a product-minded Senior Software Engineer to join the backend team and help build the brains of our automated restaurants. You will design and expand systems linking cloud, on-site robotics, and customer apps, delivering reliable features for live production kitchens.

You should master Elixir, OTP, Phoenix, and PostgreSQL, with experience in real-time distributed architectures. Collaborate with product, design, and operations to ship high-impact features with quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building highly concurrent, distributed systems and shipping them to production.
• Strong system design skills, a product-focused mindset, and a track record of owning features end-to-end.
• Proficiency in Elixir, including OTP, and the Phoenix framework.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL and relational database design.
• Experience designing, building, and consuming WebSocket events, REST APIs, webhooks, and other message-based systems.
• Experience designing and deploying infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code. We use Terraform.
• A pragmatic approach to problem solving and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical obstacles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate technical discussions with product, design, and operations partners.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement expansions of systems to accommodate new robotic solutions while maintaining reliability and performance.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to design and deploy high-impact features and mentor other engineers.
• Bridge cloud and on-premise resources with event-driven architectures, Postgres databases, WebSocket protocols, and containerized applications.
• Uphold reliability, implement testing procedures, manage the release process.
• Improve processes by applying industry-best practices and automating repetitive tasks.
