Job summary

Wealthsimple is seeking a Senior Software Developer to own the backend services at the core of margin and lending. You will join a small, high-trust team and design the systems that track balances, buying power, and collateral, working with Product, Design, and adjacent engineering teams.

You will tackle real-time, low-latency challenges, help evolve our architecture, and maintain production ownership across a broad set of services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
• Strong backend engineering skills with sound judgement on design and reliability.
• Kotlin experience with Kafka and GraphQL; similar stacks are acceptable.
• Experience delivering low-latency, highly available services.
• Production ownership mindset and calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the backend services that power balances, margin, buying power, collateral, and lending.
• Own meaningful scope end-to-end from design to production operability.
• Solve real-time, low-latency, high-availability challenges and keep systems dependable during peak moments.
• Evolve architecture for growth: new lending products, larger scale, event-driven platforms (Kafka, JVM).
• Raise quality and production ownership through thoughtful design, reviews, and automation.
• Mentor teammates through pairing, reviews, and constructive feedback, sharing knowledge.
