Job summary

Ellipsis Health is seeking a senior backend engineer to expand and maintain our real-time voice pipeline, integrating ASR/TTS plugins and optimizing latency to under 500 ms. You will collaborate with ML, product, data engineering, and platform teams across cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) to deliver scalable, observable services.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years building production Python back-ends, hands-on with streaming systems (WebRTC/WebSockets), and experience in PostgreSQL and Redis.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building production back-ends in Python.
• Real-time streaming systems experience (WebRTC, WebSockets).
• Concurrency, buffering, audio codecs knowledge (Opus, PCM).
• Cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and container orchestration.
• Relational (PostgreSQL) and in-memory (Redis) data stores.

Responsibilities

• Expand and maintain real-time voice pipeline: design, implement, and
• Integrate new providers & transports: add plug-ins for ASR/TTS.
• Deliver ultra-low latency (<500 ms RTT): profile async pipelines (asyncio).
• Instrument & observe: emit traces (OpenTelemetry).
• Harden for production with retries and idempotent messaging.
• Collaborate with ML, product, data engineering, and other teams.
