Job summary

Motion Recruitment Partners (MRP) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own financial systems for a growing retail tech platform. You will build payroll, bill pay, bank integrations, and double-entry ledgers, advancing from recording to executing payments.

You’ll work in a hands-on role focused on correctness, auditability, and performance, partnering with platform engineers and retailers. AI coding agents are used, with safeguards for money handling.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building production backend systems.
• Strong ability to write correct, maintainable, and reviewable code.
• Transactional guarantees including idempotency, atomicity, retry behavior, and duplicate webhook handling.
• Deep PostgreSQL experience with schema design, transactions under concurrency, and query performance.
• Strong attention to financial accuracy including reconciliation and tax calculations.
• Experience investigating production issues and preventing recurring bugs.
• Comfort taking ownership in a small team where engineering decisions set standards.

Responsibilities

• Build a payroll product from the ground up with earnings, tax, and payments.
• Develop bill-pay capabilities for retailers within the platform.
• Integrate bank accounts to access card-processing revenues quickly.
• Own and strengthen accounting integrations including QuickBooks synchronization.
• Design and maintain auditable ledgers for loyalty programs and deposits.
• Ensure ledger correctness under concurrent writes.
• Establish reusable financial engineering patterns and reconciliation jobs.
• Investigate production discrepancies and trace activity to transactions.
• Partner with platform engineering on sales data and transaction flows.
• Work with retailers to understand payroll and financial operations.
• Use AI coding agents to accelerate development with safeguards for money handling.
