Rippling is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Fintech Platform in the United States. You will design and scale backend systems powering global payroll and payments, including tax, treasury, and compliance data flows.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering experience building scalable, production-grade systems.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, data models, event-driven workflows, or financial infrastructure.
• Strong engineering judgment around failure modes, data integrity, observability, and operational response.
• Experience leading complex technical projects and mentoring engineers.
• Interest in fintech or financial infrastructure; payments, payroll, banking, tax, treasury, or regulated systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend systems powering global payroll and payments infrastructure.
• Develop high-integrity systems for payroll calculations, filings, ledgers, payment orders, reconciliation, treasury, and risk controls.
• Create country-agnostic platform primitives to support local tax, compliance, banking, and payroll needs across regions.
• Build APIs and integration layers that ingest complex data with correctness guarantees.
• Solve distributed-systems problems with high-volume financial data, retries, and bank/payroll integrations.
• Partner with product, design, operations, compliance, and payments teams to convert business problems into robust systems.
• Mentor other engineers and raise engineering standards through design, code quality, and ownership.
