Job summary

Gusto seeks seasoned backend software engineers for its Invoicing and Billing platform. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of the core billing engine, delivering high-throughput, scalable functionality and APIs, and supporting multi-entity and multi-currency models.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and design teams, and help scale a large Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React application while embracing AI tools to accelerate development and testing.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience
• Experience building large, high-throughput distributed systems
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React apps
• Experience leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and testing
• Ability to mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Experience in the Commerce domain: invoicing, payments, revenue recognition.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test the core billing platform (subscriptions, invoices, payments, reporting, integrations).
• Mentor other engineers to tackle complex problems at scale.
• Scale and improve one of the world's largest Ruby/Rails and JS/React apps.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, Design, and Management to address customer pain points and ship solutions daily.
• Create products that customers love.
