Job summary

Carex Consulting Group is seeking a Backend Software Engineer in Madison, WI to design and implement scalable backend services and web APIs for an advanced simulation platform. The role focuses on HPC, distributed systems, cloud integration, and robust infrastructure.

You will work with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes to connect on-premise HPC with cloud platforms, build CI/CD pipelines, and improve data management and security across the backend stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and web APIs supporting simulation workflows and data access.
• Improve software systems related to API unification, simulation data management, caching, synchronization, storage, and scripting.
• Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to develop simulation-specific backend solutions and improve scheduler integrations.
• Design efficient task pipelines and APIs for orchestrating complex, multi-physics simulation workloads.
• Build and maintain hybrid-cloud compute and storage solutions connecting on-premise HPC environments with modern cloud platforms.
• Architect and deploy Kubernetes-based infrastructure for distributed compute and simulation workloads.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code solutions that enable reliable, reproducible deployments.
• Optimize and manage high-performance computing environments using high-speed interconnects and CPU/GPU resources.
• Build monitoring, logging, and observability capabilities to improve platform performance, reliability, and troubleshooting.
• Design secure service architectures, including authentication, authorization, and related backend security controls.
• Improve infrastructure scalability and utilization as application traffic, data volumes, and computational demands grow.
• Develop internal infrastructure tooling that improves engineering productivity and platform operations.
