Job summary

Expedia Group is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer for the GenAI Platform in Chicago to design, build, and operate Python/FastAPI backend services powering GenAI capabilities like RAG and vector stores.

You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to evolve platform architecture, implement CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and guardrails, and integrate with LLM providers and databases such as Aurora PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend services and API ownership from design to deployment.
• Proficiency in Python with production-grade web services using FastAPI or similar.
• Experience with public or hybrid cloud environments and databases (Aurora PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch).
• Familiarity with AI-driven systems, LLMs, embeddings, or RAG patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate Python/FastAPI backend services powering GenAI Platform capabilities (RAG managers, data planes, vector stores).
• Implement maintainable code with CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and on-call rotations.
• Integrate platform services with LLM providers, vector stores, and Aurora PostgreSQL for scalable, multi-domain retrieval workflows.
• Contribute to GenAI platform guardrails, authentication, quotas, and observability hooks for secure AI-enabled applications.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and applied scientists to refine requirements and architecture.
• Create and maintain design docs, runbooks, and implementation guides for adoption by other teams.
