Job summary

New Relic is seeking a backend engineer to join the Distributed Tracing Pipeline team, building high-throughput services that ingest telemetry data, analyze spans and traces, and publish results for fast, reliable insights across the observability platform.

You will design and maintain backend services, collaborate across product and design, and help shape the tracing roadmap while embracing AI-assisted tooling and DevOps practices in a fast-paced, English-speaking environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and scale in production.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, or Go; able to move between languages.
• Familiar with asynchronous patterns: streams, event-driven flows, queues.
• Works well in agile environments: ships production code regularly.
• Collaborative; shares code ownership and decisions.
• Curious about applying AI to development workflows.
• Professional proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and tooling that process tracing data end to end
• Contribute to architectural decisions with creativity and a bias for innovation
• Partner with product and design teams to shape requirements and roadmap
• Build automation and deployment tooling for scalability and operability
• Operate in an agile, DevOps-style team with on-call in production
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, reviews, and investigations
• Champion technical excellence and shared knowledge across the team
