Job summary

New Relic is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the Data Platform team responsible for managing ingest into NRDB, New Relic's telemetry datastore. You will guide architecture, own delivery of large projects, and mentor engineers in a high-throughput, Kubernetes-based environment.

You will work with product and partner teams to translate roadmap priorities into technical plans, contribute to standards, and ensure the health of CI/CD, observability, and incident response while staying hands-on

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong leadership experience.
• Fluent in Java or similar OOP language and ability to learn other stacks quickly.
• Experience running stateful distributed services in production under varying load.
• Proven track record in architecture and design reviews for complex systems.
• Hands-on with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD tooling, event-driven architectures and container orchestration.
• Strong mentoring and feedback skills to improve team output.

Responsibilities

• Weigh tradeoffs between performance, maintainability, and cost in ingest systems.
• Scope, estimate, and own delivery of complex multi-engineer projects from design to GA.
• Evaluate and introduce new tools, patterns, and technologies for the team.
• Stay hands-on and ship production code alongside the team.
• Develop engineers through code review and mentorship.
• Communicate technical risk and tradeoffs to stakeholders.
• Own the operational health of the systems, including CI/CD, observability, and incident response.
• Identify gaps in tools or coverage and ensure they are closed.
