Job summary

Pleo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Data Serving team to own the production-grade boundary between raw product data and internal, AI, and customer-facing consumers. You will design APIs, ensure low-latency access, and build near-real-time data aggregation across services.

You’ll work with AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, and a Kotlin-based backend, focusing on reliability, scalability, and secure data access. This role offers hybrid or remote options across listed locations.

Qualifications

• Experience building reporting/analytics APIs and serving-layer infra.
• Focus on reliability, latency, and SLOs in production systems.
• Own API boundary design including versioning and contracts.
• Strong SQL querying and data modelling for read-heavy workloads.
• Experience with Kotlin-based backends and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Build and own the Data API boundary for internal and external consumers.
• Design and optimize read models, indexes, and caching for low latency.
• Integrate with Kotlin-based product backends to surface correct data.
• Ensure monitoring, incident response, and adherence to SLOs.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to define clean data contracts.
