Job summary

IBM is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to design and deliver cloud-native, multi-tenant data infrastructure. You will work on real-time data systems across distributed services, taking ownership from architecture to production operations.

The role emphasizes reliability, scale, and collaboration in a global engineering team. You will mentor colleagues, define APIs and data models, and contribute to high-availability platforms while shaping the next generation of IBM’s data infrastructure

Qualifications

7+ years of industry experience designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
Strong knowledge of Python runtimes and package management.
Proficiency in major programming languages (Python, Go, C/C++, Java).
Experience running services in a public cloud with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with observability, metrics, logging, tracing, and postmortems.
Leadership track record coordinating work across teams and driving projects.

Responsibilities

Own and lead design/implementation of complex backend services in a cloud-native environment.
Decide on architecture balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
Drive end-to-end project delivery from requirements through production.
Define SLOs/SLAs and improve observability and on-call processes.
Collaborate to define APIs, data models, and integration points.
Mentor engineers and promote continuous improvement and high standards.
