Job summary

Toyota North America in Plano, Texas is seeking a Sr Software Engineer—an individual contributor with deep backend expertise and full‑stack instincts to deliver high‑quality systems end to end. You will design and build full‑stack features, lead architecture discussions, and own complex features while collaborating with product, front‑end, and engineering managers.

This role requires strong AWS serverless experience and production‑grade code.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend or full‑stack focus.
• Experience with AWS serverless architectures: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB/Aurora Serverless, Step Functions, EventBridge/SQS/SNS, S3, CloudFront.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python.
• Design, build, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs with OpenAPI/Code Generator/tRPC.
• Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
• Observability/monitoring: CloudWatch, X‑Ray, Datadog.
• Security: IAM, least-privilege, Secrets Manager/SSM, encryption.
• Debugging distributed systems with tracing and log analysis.
• Testing at unit/integration/contract/load levels.
• Containerized workloads with ECS Fargate and Docker.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for RFCs and design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain full‑stack features — APIs and data models from serverless to data layers.
• Lead technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and RFC processes.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, reliability gaps, scaling constraints, and tech debt.
• Own debugging across the full stack — API latency to distributed system failures.
• Follow and contribute to engineering best practices: code quality, testing, observability, deployment safety.
• Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Product, and Front‑End Engineering to shape roadmaps.
• Proactively communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to stakeholders.
