Job summary

Alignerr is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build data pipelines, annotation systems, and evaluation tooling powering AI workflows. This fully remote hourly contract role requires 20-40 hours per week and a strong backend focus with Python expertise.

You will design robust APIs, databases, and authentication flows, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and lead code reviews to improve system reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience writing production Python backend services.
• Experience with modern web frameworks and strict type enforcement patterns.
• Ability to commit 20-40 hours per week.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize Python data pipelines and evaluation workflows.
• Develop backend services and tooling for data annotation and quality control.
• Architect APIs (REST/GraphQL), design database schemas, and implement authentication and authorization flows.
• Improve reliability and performance of existing Python codebases.
• Collaborate with data, research, and engineering teams to support model training and evaluation workflows.
• Lead synchronous code reviews and contribute to system design decisions.
