Job summary

Slang AI in the United States is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to advance our backend systems that power real-time voice and telephony integrations for restaurant experiences. You will spend most time on backend services (Kotlin) with opportunities to contribute to React/TypeScript frontend occasionally, mentor teammates, and help shape technical direction.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• Proficiency in at least one OO language (Java, Kotlin, C#, Python, TypeScript, Ruby, C++, Go)
• Experience owning features end to end and mentoring engineers
• Experience with RESTful or GraphQL APIs
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases and data modeling
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
• Strong testing practices and debugging skills
• AI fluency and willingness to work with AI-driven workflows
• Basic familiarity with React/TypeScript (frontend adjustments)
• Ability to work independently in a remote/hybrid environment
• Strong written and verbal communication for remote collaboration
• Willingness to take on on-call shifts

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services
• Develop GraphQL queries and mutations for client-server communication
• Contribute to React frontend components when needed
• Create modular, testable code following domain-driven design
• Implement proper error handling, logging, and graceful degradation
• Write unit and integration tests across the stack
• Design Firestore data models optimized for performance
• Develop observability through logging, metrics, and tracing
• Lead code reviews and mentor junior engineers
• Document technical decisions and API contracts
• Deploy containerized apps to Google Cloud Platform
• Collaborate with product teams on UX improvements
