Job summary

Care.com is seeking a strong backend engineer for its Search & Match team. You will build scalable backend systems powering discovery, ranking, and matching, with AI-driven initiatives from concept to production.

The role is primarily backend with full-stack exposure a plus, collaborating cross-functionally to deliver impactful features and improve performance. You will own end-to-end AI initiatives, write clean code, and help evolve our platform with microservices while ensuring high

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven AI/ML in production and driving initiatives end-to-end.
• Demonstrated ownership with ambiguous problems and measurable outcomes.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Docker, SQL, and Hibernate.
• Experience building backend services using microservices and distributed systems.
• Strong fundamentals in APIs, data modeling, and system design.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Experience with caching (ElastiCache) and search (Solr/Elasticsearch).
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (S3, Lambda, Step Functions, CDK, KMS).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins) and modern dev practices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI initiatives end to end from opportunity to delivery.
• Build, maintain, and enhance high-volume backend systems.
• Break down monoliths into microservices.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions with PMs.
• Collaborate with teams to design, implement, and improve services.
• Write clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews.
• Support production systems, troubleshoot issues, and improve reliability.
• Work with QA to ensure high-quality releases.
• Identify opportunities to improve system performance and developer experience.
• Build systems that use data and AI to improve search relevance and matching quality.
