Care.com is seeking a strong backend engineer for the Search & Match team to power discovery, ranking, and matching. This role is primarily backend, with full-stack insights valued.

You’ll lead AI-driven initiatives from concept to production, partnering with engineers and product managers to deliver impactful features and improve performance. We value 5–7+ years of experience, production AI/ML track record, and strong expertise in Java, Spring, Kafka, Docker, SQL, and Hibernate.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven experience using AI/ML in production and driving AI initiatives end-to-end.
• Ownership mindset and ability to drive ambiguous problems to measurable outcomes.
• Strong backend focus with microservices architecture and scalable systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and search technologies (Solr/Elasticsearch).

Responsibilities

• Lead AI initiatives end to end from opportunity to delivery and iteration.
• Build, maintain, and enhance high-volume backend systems.
• Break down monoliths into microservices; design scalable distributed systems.
• Collaborate with product managers to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Write clean, well-tested code; participate in reviews and ensure reliability.
• Support production systems and improve performance and developer experience.
• Work with QA to ensure high-quality releases; improve search relevance and matching.
