Job summary

Torch in New York is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to evolve our platform architecture, build high-performance distributed systems, and develop agentic workflows powering AI-enabled product experiences.

You will design HIPAA-compliant backends for healthcare data, mentor peers, and collaborate with product and design to deliver secure, scalable services in a hybrid, three-day-a-week office model.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong cloud platform experience across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proven track record building scalable, secure systems.
• Ability to work with non-engineers (product, design, biz).
• Experience leading AI infrastructure projects end-to-end in a startup.

Responsibilities

• Design, integrate, and operate LLM-powered, agentic workflows for claims data.
• Build and maintain HIPAA-compliant healthcare data systems.
• Lead security, compliance, cost, performance, and scale decisions for AI workloads.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for AI pipelines.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to ship AI capabilities.
• Mentor engineers on backend engineering and agentic workflows.
