Fora in New York City is seeking a seasoned Senior or Staff Backend Engineer to help build our AI‑driven product suite and infrastructure. You’ll work on MCP tooling, agent orchestration, and evaluations, shipping from design to production while navigating ambiguity and rapidly changing APIs.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of backend experience, strong Python and Django/Flask skills, and a passion for applied AI.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend/web development experience.
• 3+ years Python experience with Django/Flask or similar.
• Strong API and distributed systems design fundamentals.
• Curiosity and drive in applied AI and staying up-to-date.
• Team player with strong communication and collaboration.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with ambiguity and fast iteration.

Responsibilities

• Define and prioritize Fora's Applied AI roadmap with PM and Designer.
• Design and build MCP tooling exposing data/services via permissions.
• Build and harden agent orchestration with tool-calling loops.
• Improve reliability of non-deterministic systems with evals and tracing.
• Focus on performance, latency, architecture, and clean code.
• Collaborate across AI services, the Django platform, and the portal frontend.
• Take features from 0-1 from design to delivery and beyond.
• Establish patterns and best practices for Applied AI at Fora.
