Job summary

Airwallex is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and own the backend services powering Growth at scale. You’ll work on distributed systems, AI-native capabilities, and real-time data processing that connect product, sales, and marketing to drive measurable business outcomes.

Bring 5+ years of software engineering, strong Python/Java/Kotlin, experience with FastAPI or Spring Boot, and a solid grounding in distributed systems, API design, data modeling, and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, Kotlin or similar backend language with FastAPI or Spring Boot.
• Distributed systems knowledge: API design, data modeling, event-driven architectures, scalability, reliability.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable backend systems including high-performance APIs and real-time data processing.
• Develop AI-native capabilities for personalized experiences and automated workflows.
• Own end-to-end technical delivery of backend services from design to production.
• Design for reliability and scale with observable, secure services.
• Collaborate across Product, Data Science, Marketing, Sales, and other teams.
• Mentor and elevate engineering quality through reviews and knowledge sharing.
