Job summary

Airwallex is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design scalable Python services (FastAPI) on GCP, building AI-powered financial systems and resilient infrastructure. You’ll own API design, data models, and security for enterprise-grade reliability.

You will collaborate with ML and product teams to productionize research ideas and create platform foundations that enable rapid engineering across the org.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development with Python at scale.
• Strong SQL and NoSQL database design experience.
• Experience with distributed systems or microservices.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services.
• Solid focus on security and compliance practices.
• Passion for building scalable AI-powered backends.

Responsibilities

• Build typed, production-grade APIs and services in Python (FastAPI + Pydantic).
• Develop resilient infrastructure primitives (queues, retries, observability).
• Work at the intersection of systems and AI to improve models and behavior.
• Ship platform foundations, SDKs, and tooling to accelerate engineers.
• Collaborate with ML and product teams to productionize ideas.
• Define architecture of an AI-native financial stack.
