Job summary

Airwallex is hiring a senior backend engineer in Seattle to own scalable systems powering growth across acquisition, activation, and retention. You will design low-latency services, work with Product, Data Science, Frontend, Design, Marketing, and other Engineering teams to translate complex problems into robust solutions.

The role emphasizes autonomous decision-making, architectural reviews, and building AI-native growth workflows while protecting customer data and meeting regulatory

Qualifications

Significant experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems.
Strong knowledge of distributed systems, object-oriented design, and reliability.
Proficiency in Java or Kotlin and modern engineering practices.

Responsibilities

Own the architecture and delivery of scalable backend systems powering growth initiatives.
Design high-throughput, low-latency services and distributed architectures.
Turn signals into reliable data products and intelligent workflows.
Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Frontend, Design, Marketing and other teams.
Lead architectural reviews, mentoring, and ensure secure, compliant solutions.
